Storms and hurricanes can be frequent occurrences in certain coastal regions, and construction standards dictate the use of high-performance products to ensure the safety of building occupants. These products are developed to withstand the impact of airborne debris and fluctuations in wind speed from 177 km/h to 274 km/h. Even if exterior steel doors and frames have suffered damage after the storm has passed, they must remain functional.
DE LA FONTAINE offers you a robust opening that meets the stringent requirements of ANSI A250.13 Severe Windstorm Resistant Components for Swinging Door Assemblies. This quality standard evaluates the frame, door and hardware according to the performance criteria of ASTM E1886-05, ASTM E1996-09 and ASTM E330-02. The opening also provides a fire rating of up to 90 minutes, positive pressure UL10C.
This product meets the requirements for category 1 hurricanes and can resist pressure of up to 70 psf and impacts of up to 350 lb-ft.
The maximum dimensions for a Hurricane opening are:
- Single door: 3'0" x 7'0" (914 mm x 2133 mm)
- Double doors: 6'0" x 7'0" (1829 mm x 2133 mm)
The components for the Hurricane product are specific, as are the types of hardware used. Please refer to the technical data sheet below for details in compliance with applicable requirements.
As a feature unique to De La Fontaine, our Hurricane doors can be further distinguished with the addition of customized embossing that allows you to blend performance and design. The door models available in the design embossed collection can be used with this product.
